Chaitali Nahata and Deepika S Balamurali are close friends who share a common love for traditional aesthetics and passion for contemporary design and quality that comes from been born in India and living in the US. These Californian girls of Indian origin are spunky, love color and believe ethical organic and artisanal creativity is the way forward in fashion.
Chaitali, born and raised in different parts of India moved to the US after her marriage and is mother to a seven year old son. With an MBA under the belt she spent over a decade in banking and staffing before deciding to change tracks and follow her passion into the world of aesthetics and design. She loves the company of family and friends, good food, travel and is currently enjoying motherhood. It was her weight gain post childbirth that led Chaitali to discover the comfort and beauty of flat footwear when on one of her trips back to India she bought a pair of beautifully hand embroidered, handcrafted Jootis (traditional flats worn both by men and women in India) and realized they were the perfect footwear for a long day. The comfort and the beauty of the jooti won her over but she realized that though these handmade flats were gaining widespread popularity as a fashion accessory yet the craftspeople who made them were not benefiting from the boom. This led to the birth of Mujro, a fashion portal for Indian flats, that combines the best of hand craft traditions passed on by generations with contemporary global designing and quality. Mujro introduces these handcrafted flats to the world to support the artisans who create them to lead a sustainable life.
